30 Books for Your 1st Grader

This post contains affiliate links to books that we love.  Many of which we borrowed from the library so many times that we decided to just buy them.

Yesterday I posted about how to Help Your Child Become a Confident Reader.  Today I would like to share with you some of my son's favorite books.  Sometimes when he reads he will pick up picture book designed to be read to younger kids.  Sometimes he will take his time and read through a chapter of a more difficult book like Little House on the Prairie.  Most of the time, though, he will curl up with a book like one of these.

They are 'just right' as far as difficulty, maybe just slightly easy, so he can read them confidently and truly enjoy the story.  He reads these over and over.  You can click over to amazon to see samples of the books, but to give you an idea, here is a page from one of the books which is the difficulty and style of all the books listed here.

Amelia Bedelia series by Peggy Parish

Frog and Toad and others by Arnold Lobel

Little Bear series by Else Minarik

Winnie the Pooh Easy to Read series by A. A. Milne

A Few Others To Consider

Here are two other series' that I am not quite as familiar with, so I can't whole-heartedly recommend them, but my son as read a few of them and they seem good as well.

My favorite place to go for book recommendations is the 1000 Good Books List.  I find myself revisiting that list over and over.  Books are broken down by level and type.

You can also get great ideas from my Books and Book Lists pinterest board.  Make sure you follow the board so you can see any new book lists I stumble upon!
