Honor Copyright Awareness Week

This week, the ladies at the iHomeschool Network are coming together to promote awareness about copyright laws.

These days, with so many digital files around (ebooks, curriculum, printables, etc.), violating copyright law is easier than ever.  I'm sure that not many people intend to violate these laws, but the reality is that files get shared illegally all the time.

The goal of this week is to share knowledge.  Each day will have it's own theme.

  • Monday: Copyright Basics
  • Tuesday: How to Share "Freebies"
  • Wednesday: Teaching our Kids About Piracy
  • Thursday: Hangout with iHomeschool Network
  • Friday: What to do if...

This issue affects me greatly, not only because of the free printables offered here at Living and Learning at Home, but also because of all the copywork I sell at Classical Copywork.  My desire is to create great resources for you all to use, but those things take a lot of time to create, publish, market, etc. so it's really sad when people think that they can do whatever they want with a product just because it is digital.  Therefore, I am committed to learning more about copyright this week and hopefully spreading that knowledge to all of you!

Will you pledge to learn more about copyright and to examine your sharing practices?

If so, come join me in signing this #honorcopyright pledge!

Please visit iHomeschool Network to learn more!

Preschool

Your one-stop-shop for all things Preschool here at Living and Learning at Home!  All of my preschool related posts are broken down here for you, and I  also share some of my favorite preschool resources.  (Some of the resources are affiliate links, but only to products that we love!)

This page is a work in progress as I am sorting through and updating old posts.  Please stop by again to see what has been added!

First of all, let's talk about preschool.  Preschool does not have to be complicated.  It does not have to fancy.  Do not feel bad if your preschool activities are not Pinterest worthy!

Preschool can be simply worked into your normal day, or accomplished in a few minutes set aside a few times a week.

You probably know that this is a Classical Education homeschool blog.  Check out my series The Classical Preschool to see what I think the most important components are of a preschool education that will prepare your child for a classical education.

Trivium Tuesdays-Classical Link-Up #76

Welcome to another week of Trivium Tuesdays!  For those of you who are new here today, this is a link-up aimed at encouraging and informing other homeschoolers who use the Classical model of teaching.  Here we can share with each other and learn from one another.

We had a great number of posts linked-up last week!  Thanks to everyone who shared!  This week I am going to feature three of you whose posts are very helpful!

Featured Posts

Do any of you use Mystery of History?  Kendra, from Preschoolers and Peace, shares an amazing resource that she has put together that lays out what you need to do each year.   If you are not familiar with Preschoolers and Peace, go and follow it on facebook or something!  You will be encouraged, I am certain!

I loved this post about teaching reading from Classical Conversations at Home because it expresses just what I think about the subject!  If you have young children, definitely hop over and read this post!

Do you use Harmony Fine Arts?  (If not, you should!)  Really, if you do any art study with your children, Barb has a great printable for you.  If you sometimes find yourself not knowing how to talk to you child about the art you look at, these cards will help!  I printed mine out already =)

This Week's Link-Up

Here are the rules:
  • Your post must have to do (in some way) with classical homeschooling (any age children).
  • Your post may be from your archives as long as you only post it one time on this link-up.
  • Please link to your direct post, not your blog in general.
  • Please place my Trivium Tuesdays button (found on my right sidebar) on your blog post so others can learn about this link-up!
  • It may be helpful to state in your link description what stage of the trivium or what subject your post is about, if applicable, so others can easily find posts they are interested in looking at.
  • Remember, everyone loves comments =) So don't be shy, and tell someone if you liked their post!

I reserve the right to remove any link-up that does not have to do with classical homeschooling.         If you are a regular here at Trivium Tuesdays and have something to share that is a little off topic, but still would be an encouragement to the readers here, please still share it =)  I'm referring to people who are just trying to get their blog more exposure without following the rules above.

I will visit each of your blogs this week and feature my favorite link-up for all to see next week!  Also, if your blog has a button I will place it on my sidebar (under Friends to Visit) for the week until it is replaced by the next week's favorite =)

Come find hundreds of posts from many different blogs, all having to do with Classical Homeschooling.  These posts have been linked up to Trivium Tuesdays here at Living and Learning at Home.  If you have a post that you would like included link it up next Tuesday and I will add it.

These lists are slowly being transferred onto Pinterest boards.  If you are looking for a topic that you do not see below, please check my original All Things Classical Blog Post Index

Below you will find each of my Pinterest boards.  They cover all aspects of classical education.  You will find boards specific to the stages of the trivium (grammar, logic, and rhetoric) and then broken down by subject.  There are also boards covering broader subjects (like books lists and curriculum choices).  These boards will be every-growing, so check back often!

Please click on each title picture to take you to the Pinterest board so you can see all the great posts in that category!

Make sure to follow each board so you will be able to see when I add new posts!

Sponsor Spotlight: Classical Academic Press

Have you noticed the new button on my sidebar this month?  I'm so excited to announce that Classical Academic Press is my newest sponsor here at Living and Learning at Home!

I first learned about Classical Academic Press when I read a review at Teaching Stars about Song School Latin.  After reading that post, I knew that Song School Latin was something that I wanted to use with my children.  I got it a few months ago to review and my kids have LOVED it since the minute we started.  You can read my review at The Curriculum Choice.

I wanted to take today to share with you a little more about Classical Academic Press and what other great materials they offer.  From their website:

Our mission is to produce and supply the finest classical curricula to the market today.

We seek to produce classical curricula and media with a clear design and structure, incremental and systematic instruction, all with a touch of delight, creativity and flair.

Great Curricula at Classical Academic Press

Classical Academic Press offers more than just Latin (though you should definitely check out their complete line of Latin curriculum for grades 1-12).  Here are a few great products to give you a taste of what they have for you!  If something looks interesting to you, make sure to click over and look on the product page because there are sample chapters and other free resources to help you learn more!

Logic (grades 7 and up)

  • The Art of Argument -  introduces students to the logical fallacies
  • The Discovery of Deduction - explores the structure or reasoning
  •  The Argument Builder - helps students to build a sound argument that is also persuasive.

Writing and Rhetoric (grades 3 and up)

This is a new series that will teach your child how to write by imitating excellent, whole-story examples of literature.  Right now they have two books out, but it looks like this is going to be a 12 book series to take your child all the way to graduation!  This series looks really neat and I'm excited to use it with my son in a year or two.

Bible (grades 3 and up)

This four part series teaches children the overarching story of the Bible.  I love that it teaches the Bible chronologically, which you could fit right in to your history studies (or just use it as a stand alone curriculum or or family Bible time).  Along with the great stories and learning about the covenant that God has made with his people, this curriculum come packed with:

  • Passages to memorize
  • Maps
  • A Timeline
  • Audio book of the stories

I hope that this gives you a little taste of the great products you will find at Classical Academic Press.  I have been so happy with the products that I have used from them, and I know that you will be too!

Have you used any curriculum from Classical Academic Press?  Leave a comment, because I would love to hear what your favorites are!
