Honor Copyright Awareness Week

This week, the ladies at the iHomeschool Network are coming together to promote awareness about copyright laws.

These days, with so many digital files around (ebooks, curriculum, printables, etc.), violating copyright law is easier than ever.  I'm sure that not many people intend to violate these laws, but the reality is that files get shared illegally all the time.

The goal of this week is to share knowledge.  Each day will have it's own theme.

This issue affects me greatly, not only because of the free printables offered here at Living and Learning at Home, but also because of all the copywork I sell at Classical Copywork.  My desire is to create great resources for you all to use, but those things take a lot of time to create, publish, market, etc. so it's really sad when people think that they can do whatever they want with a product just because it is digital.  Therefore, I am committed to learning more about copyright this week and hopefully spreading that knowledge to all of you!

First of all, let's talk about preschool.  Preschool does not have to be complicated.  It does not have to fancy.  Do not feel bad if your preschool activities are not Pinterest worthy!

Preschool can be simply worked into your normal day, or accomplished in a few minutes set aside a few times a week.

Do any of you use Mystery of History?  Kendra, from Preschoolers and Peace, shares an amazing resource that she has put together that lays out what you need to do each year.   If you are not familiar with Preschoolers and Peace, go and follow it on facebook or something!  You will be encouraged, I am certain!

I loved this post about teaching reading from Classical Conversations at Home because it expresses just what I think about the subject!  If you have young children, definitely hop over and read this post!

Do you use Harmony Fine Arts?  (If not, you should!)  Really, if you do any art study with your children, Barb has a great printable for you.  If you sometimes find yourself not knowing how to talk to you child about the art you look at, these cards will help!  I printed mine out already =)

Logic (grades 7 and up)

• The Art of Argument -  introduces students to the logical fallacies

• The Discovery of Deduction - explores the structure or reasoning

•  The Argument Builder - helps students to build a sound argument that is also persuasive. 

Writing and Rhetoric (grades 3 and up)

This is a new series that will teach your child how to write by imitating excellent, whole-story examples of literature.  Right now they have two books out, but it looks like this is going to be a 12 book series to take your child all the way to graduation!  This series looks really neat and I'm excited to use it with my son in a year or two.

Bible (grades 3 and up)

 This four part series teaches children the overarching story of the Bible.  I love that it teaches the Bible chronologically, which you could fit right in to your history studies (or just use it as a stand alone curriculum or or family Bible time).  Along with the great stories and learning about the covenant that God has made with his people, this curriculum come packed with:

• Passages to memorize
• Maps
• A Timeline
• Audio book of the stories
