Paper Hats and Cute Corner Bookmarks

Yesterday was a crafty kind of day.  I enjoy making things myself, but for some reason it's not my thing to do it with my kids.  None the less, we embarked on a very hands-on day!  We did a science experiment with blueberry ice cubes, we 'finger' painted using q-tips, and we did some simple origami.

For the origami, we first made a paper hat, using the instructions found here.  It's a good starting origami for kids.  Trevor needed help getting his points in the right place, but I expected that.  If you're looking for some good books on origami, check out these:

Next, we made a corner bookmark that I had come across on pinterist the other day. I don't think I can improve on the original tutorial, so I'm not going to share the steps here.  This tutorial was for making silly monster bookmarks, but I didn't want to do monsters, so first we made just a simple one that I painted a caterpillar on.

I loved the idea of this, so I brainstormed what I could make other than monsters that would still be super cute.  I thought different animals would be fun, so while the kids napped I made these!  I just love them =)

***UPDATE!  I have now created a printable to go along with these bookmarks so you can just cut and paste to create your own bookmarks! ***

This would be a great activity for even young children if you had the eyes, ears, etc. cut out first and all they would have to do is glue them on.  If you've done this or if you decide to try it for yourself, I'd love to see how yours turn out!

Happy Crafting!

    1. It was from a 4x6in size scrapbook paper stack that I've had for a long time. Probably got it at JoAnne's or something like that. Sorry I don't have more specific info! I think the stack theme was Jungle if that would help you find a similar one!
