I have often seen beautiful photos on people's blogs, with great looking captions, and adorable buttons on their sidebars, and assumed that I could never create these without the use of a fancy program. I am the type of person who likes to work with what I've got, not spending money unless I absolutely have to, so I decided to play around with what I already had at my disposal. Turns out, you don't need a fancy program after all!
I am embarrassed to even admit that I use this program. It has been around since what feels like the beginning of time, or at least the beginning of computers. It's buried under the 'Accessories' folder in your 'Start' menu. Maybe you have guessed it by now...

ReplyDeleteThanks for this tutorial! I just loaded Photoshop Elements today, but it's going to take me a while to figure it all out. I've done a bit with picmonkey, but I'll look into paint now. I need to make some blog buttons. Can you tell me what size they should be and how many pixels?

I personally find that they come out best when I make them close to the right size to begin with, then they don't get all funny when you try to shrink or enlarge them. Typical blog button sizes are usually 125x125 or 150x150 (pixels). Square is most conducive for other people fitting it into their sidebar, but you can do rectangle too. If it doesn't end up the right size (pixels) then you can alter it in the HTML code once you have that. Let me know if you need to know how to do that, it's really simple.
