Summer is here (well, technically it is still Spring, but it feels like summer) and I am ready for a change of pace. We school year round here, so it's not like summertime brings a time of throwing down our books and kicking up our feet. So what's a girl to do?
If you are a frequent reader here, it's no secret that we are classical homeschoolers. So why am I interested in Charlotte Mason for the summer? Well, first of all, Charlotte Mason really was a classical educator, she just put her own unique spin on things. The Charlotte Mason and classical models really complement each other quite well. They both focus on living books, understanding history chronologically, and being surrounded by the good, the true, and the beautiful. I'm excited to mesh these two styles together for this summer!
What is the Charlotte Mason Method?
I know a bit about the Charlotte Mason method, but I am no expert. Let me go over the bit that I know:
- Short and sweet lessons
- Lots of outdoors time
- A focus on nature
- A focus on literature (and living books)
- Copywork, Dictation, Narration
Ok, what am I missing? Well, I'm about to find out, because the next book that we are going to be going through in our Classical Mamas Read book club is book 1 of the Charlotte Mason Homeschool Series. I am really excited to read this book and learn more!
I've ordered my book and am looking forward to the discussion!

DeleteAmy, it must be fate. I just spent several months in the past year learning about Charlotte Mason methods. We've been incorporating nature study into our weeks already, as you may recall from my most recent Trivium Tuesday linkups. I better get to reading this!
ReplyDeleteYes! I've loved seeing your nature journal pictures. I'm glad you like the book choice =) I thought a CM book would be a perfect fit for the summer since she emphasizes the outdoors and nature walks so much. I'm glad you'll be reading along!
DeleteI just found your blog through Pinterest and it is fantastic! Thank you :) We homeschool using the classical method with Classical Conversations, but I love the Charlotte Mason method as well. Can't wait to start reading!
